The journey

Overview

Rara sits at 2,990 m inside Nepal's smallest national park, and almost nobody goes. Flying in from Nepalgunj skips the long overland journey and leaves you with days of easy lakeside walking, a boat crossing, pine forest full of Himalayan birds, and some of the darkest night skies in the country. Good for travellers who want remoteness without a hard trek.

What stays with you

  • Scenic flight across the Himalaya to the Talcha airstrip
  • Two full days exploring Rara National Park's forest and lakeshore trails
  • Boat crossing on the lake and the ridge hike to Murma Top
  • Stargazing with effectively zero light pollution
  • Thakuri hospitality, with traditional music and Karnali home cooking
